Twenty years of building software will teach you a few things. One of them is this: the tools you depend on will eventually be used against you.

Not maliciously — just economically. A SaaS company’s job is to capture as much value as possible from the software they rent you. Your job, as a founder, is to not let that happen.

That tension is what G8N•AI is about.

the problem

I’ve watched it happen over and over. A founder builds a business on top of rented software — a CRM, a marketing tool, an operations platform. Things are fine until they’re not. A pricing change. A feature sunset. An acquisition. Suddenly the foundation shifts and they’re scrambling.

The math is brutal too. Add up what a small team pays across their SaaS stack — project management, customer support, email marketing, analytics, auth, billing — and it’s often $2,000–$5,000/month or more. For software they don’t own. Software they can’t extend. Software that holds their data hostage.

There’s a better way.

what G8N•AI is

G8N•AI is my newsletter and podcast. The thesis: modern AI tools have made custom software dramatically more accessible. A small team can now build and maintain software that would have required a full engineering team five years ago.

Software sovereignty isn’t about writing everything from scratch. It’s about knowing when to own vs. rent, and having the knowledge and tools to act on that.

The newsletter covers the what and why — the strategy, the decisions, the tradeoffs. The podcast goes deeper into specific implementations and conversations with founders who are doing this.
